Field Trip on the Chao Phraya River
Posted on December 14, 2008 by marybellone2
Today we had an incredible time on our barge floating down the Chao Phraya River. We had so many activities that helped us learn about water and adaptations. Take the time to reflect on our field trip.
Our activities: Water Hyacinth, Creating A Building on the River, Oh Deer!, and Bird Beaks and Adaptations.
1. What activity did you enjoy the most? Why?
2. What did you learn from that activity?
I can’t wait to hear what you enjoyed learning today!

I liked the bird activity becuase it was fun trying to get the food and I thought it was funny try to acked like a bird. I think I lrened about how birds have big and small beaks and how tricky to get necktern with the eating thing.
I liked opening the plant it was very fun .I learned that there is lots of life in the plants and in the rivers .
I liked the ‘Oh deer’ game. I liked this game because it was very much like reality because you had to find food like animals do. I learned about the 3 main natural resources:food, water, shelter.Animals like deer have a hard time getting all of these.
I liked the water hyacinth best ,because Iliked getting my hands into the hyacinth.I leared that many macro invertibreats live in the hyacinth.
Hi Haley!!!!!!
That was my 2nd fav. game!I liked it because it was very very very fun being a deer was’ent it ? anyway I got to go now ,
bye now ,
Grace
I liked the plants because I can know what is in plants in the river. I learned the plants filter the Chao Praya River and that there is many other tiny species that live underwater.
I thought it was exiteing to play the bird game and catch the pretend food
my fav part of the feild trip was when we had to dig into a plant to look for BIG BUGS! we all got our hands very very derty I liked that part because i liked looking at some bugs that i have never seen! I lernd that many spesheeas of bugs like living in a big maze of tentikels
I liked the game when we had to act like birds because it was so fun trying to get all the objects. I learned that birds have diffrent beaks and that they all eat diffrent foods.
My favorite part of the field trip was the game Oh Deer because I learned about how there has to be enough food, water, and shelter or else the deer would die out because you need food, water, and shelter to stay alive.I also learned that factories are poisoning food and water by polluting it.I didn’t really understand how you can poison shelter but you get the idea.Making the motions for food, water, and shelter was a lot of fun too.
Hey Kayla
Me to I liked acting like birds to Quack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked that game too Kayla. I think the most fun part was trying to get the Bark Bugs with pliers.
Hi Grace! Wasn’t it fun ripping the roots apart?!
I loved it but it was still pretty gross that’s why I said it when they past around the clay jar!
I really liked it when we drew pictures of the factories we would make on the sides of the Chao Praya river. We teamed up with a partner and drew a picture of our factory. One side of the paper was water, the other side was land. After we were done, they got taped together. Then the lady asked us questions about our building. We dumped matereals that would leak into the Chao Praya river in a jar when we were finished, the water looked so gross. I learned that the Chao Praya river is really that gross.
My most favorite thing that we did on the barge trip was when I got to search in the roots of a water Hyacinth. I enjoyed it the most because I like to get my hands dirty. I was learning that water pollution affects and makes micro-invertebrates live there.
Sai that was my 2nd favorite game! I found bugs I did not even know existed!Still I thought it was pretty gross.
my favorite part of the field trip was when we got a plant and dug through it andtried to find animals. I learned that there is a lot animals in the plant.
I liked the O deer game bcause u get a perspective of the comlpications and things animals need to live
kevin that was my #2 fav.But it was still sick
I like the Water Hyacinth because you get to dig in the Water Hyacinth looking for species living in it and putting it in 2 baskets filled with less water.
I learned that the Water Hyacinth has 3 adaptations. One of them is that the Water Hyacinth’s roots made it float.
I enjoyed the game so much because when i was a
deer i had to run as fast as i can to find my match, but
if i am to late i will die then i will becone a resourse.
I like this game because you have to think fast and
move fast
i liked the oh deer game because i lerned that alot of animals die evry yher
I liked oh dear the most because we had to run as fast as i can to find my match.
I liked birds and beaks and how we learned what they eat
I learn that dont put trash to the river the water it mite get darker and the fish will dead and peopie cant use water from Chaophvaya river.
I really like the game oh deer. I learned that animals need lots of food, water, and homes to live in and if one part of some food and water is poison the deer can die and that what i learned.
What i liked the most was the water hisine. what i liked was riping and tearing. what i learnd was that in one plant there is lots of animals.
What I liked most about the Barge trip was when we played oh Deer because it showed that deer some times have to fight for food and I did not know that .And it showed me that deer are in danger.
Hey Sam (Sammie),
